New Intake 2020
Welcome to the children and families who will be joining Holy Family in September 2020. We are looking forward to getting to know you all and being part of your learning and faith journey. Welcome back also to the children who will be joining our Reception class having attended our Nursery. We hope that you will all feel happy and settled in our school and feel very much part of our extended school family.
As a result of the school closure due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we are unable to hold meetings in school. Unfortunately, this means we are unable to meet you in person and share with you all the information you need to know about starting school. However, we hope that information on this page will give you enough information about what to expect for September and how best to prepare your child for starting school and Nursery.
Packs have been sent home with information about preparing for school as well as data collection sheets and a prospectus. If you have not received a pack in the post, please contact school directly and we will get one sent out to you.
We are a one form entry Catholic school. We are a worshiping as well as a learning family and we come together each day to pray and to know God in our own lives. We welcome children and families of all faiths and none but we share the love that Jesus has for each one of us through our care for one another.
Our school prospectus can be found here. In it, you will find all the information you need about our school including details about the curriculum, times of the school day, school uniform, staff and school meals & Breakfast Club, among other things.
If your child has not been offered a place at Holy Family for the Reception Class September 2020, you do have a right of appeal. School appeals will be accepted by the Local Authority until 12th June 2020. The window has been extended on account of the school closure due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Some appeals may be slow to process because of the pandemic so parents have been advised that there may be a delay in some appeal hearings taking place. Further information about how to appeal a decision made about the school place your child has been given can be found at:
The Nursery staff are Mrs Marshall & Mrs Lawlor.
If your child is going to be joining us in the Nursery from September, a welcome pack can be found here. In the welcome pack, you will find information about what you can do to help prepare your child for starting Nursery.
Begin to talk to your child about the school: where it is, the names of their teachers and what they will be wearing whilst at Nursery. Nursery is a happy place where children grow, play and learn together. If your child is apprehensive about joining Nursery, know that our teachers are very experienced in settling children in smoothly and gently. If you have any concerns about how to settle your child, please share this with school staff and we will do our best to reassure you.
Encourage your child to dress themselves. In school, it would help if they are able to put on and take off coats and shoes. They will also need to be able to use the toilet independently. If your child has any additional needs in this regard, these too can be shared with school staff. Please make sure that your child's clothing and shoes are clearly labelled with their names. You would be surprised how many items can get muddled or mixed up!

The welcome pack can be found here. Included in the pack is some information about school which should help you in preparing your child to join us in September.
Like Nursery, starting school is an exciting time. Children will make firm friends, grow, learn and become independent young people. For those children who are joining us for the first time, they may too be apprehensive about this new adventure. Again, do reassure your child that school is a happy place where they are loved and cared for. Our staff are experience practitioners and know how to settle children smoothly and sensitively so if you have any concerns, again, please raise these with our staff.
Encourage talk about school; speak to your child about their school uniform, their teachers, what they will be doing and learning and the new friends they will make. Practice independent dressing; they will need to be able to get themselves dressed and undressed for PE each week. They will also need to be able to change their shoes (we try to get outside everyday and will need a pair of wellies for this) and put their coats on. Again, please make sure that all their clothing and shoes are clearly labelled with their names.
If you have any questions or queries, please contact the school office. Although only open to a limited number of pupils, we still have staff available in the office to take any calls and help parents in any way we can.
Miss Rushton, Mrs Bradley & Mrs Clarkson have put together a welcome message for all the boys and girls who will be joining us in September. We can't wait to meet you all!
Below the welcome message from the Reception staff are also 2 presentations; one for the children and one for parents from Mrs Arnold, Headteacher.
