Our Curriculum

At Holy Family RC Primary School, we are ambitious for every child to achieve their potential.  We are a welcoming school, rooted in the community and with a shared drive for every one of our children to be the best version of themselves.    Through a stimulating and thoughtfully planned learning environment, we create a culture of industry, curiosity and experience which inspires the children to learn together and be fully engaged in their learning journey.  As they progress through our school, we give every child the opportunity to know how they can contribute to the community and society in meaningful and positive ways.

The Curriculum is based on the National Curriculum.  The knowledge and skills children are to acquire and develop are mapped out from Foundation Stage to Key Stage 2 for every subject.   These are revisited overtime and children develop a depth of learning by being able to make connections within this spiral approach to learning which seeks to make close links with the local area and children's lived experience.  Experiential opportunities are an inherent feature of the curriculum along with outdoor learning, which our thoughtfully developed school grounds support.  Our curriculum is characterised by a focus on a communication rich environment where children's speaking, listening and communication skills are developed and supported in every aspect of school life.  Drama, cooperative learning and Philosophy for Children (P4C) support the language rich curriculum and help children grow in confidence and supports their wider learning.

We follow the example of the Holy Family and together, support and look after one another.  Children share the same high expectations of themselves as the staff and this is the founding stone for our curriculum.  Together, we work hard and, 'Through Work, Through Worship and Through Witness', we promote excellence in academic, spiritual and creative learning.

Curriculum Structure

The coherent curriculum structure builds on children's prior learning and experience to make learning relevant, meaningful and memorable.  Cooperative learning is a key feature of our methodology which encourages children to have agency over their learning.  Teachers use well honed strategies to drive learning and ensure all children work towards the same curriculum and learning goals.

The curriculum impact is tracked through our monitoring and evaluation strategy that triangulates assessment outcomes, pupil voice, quality of lessons and learning and feedback from parents and teachers.  The curriculum is designed to create a schema for children through which they can apply their sequential learning to different contexts.

Each subject area is carefully evaluated and informs the wider school development plan.

Our ambition is that our children will be equipped with the foundations and skills to achieve success in education.  They will be well-rounded students, ready to embark on the next stage of their academic careers and aware of their qualities, skills and talents.  They will be inquisitive, curious and invested in their communities and learning with the resilience and determination to succeed.
