We have lots of exciting learning ahead of us!

Please click on the link at the bottom of the page to see a copy of our Curriculum Overview.

Religion

This term we will be studying the three themes of:

  • Holidays and Holydays-Pentecost: feast of the Holy Spirit
  • Being sorry- God helps us to choose well
  • Neighbours- Neighbours share God’s world

English

We will share and discuss a range of high-quality texts that are linked to our topic to develop our love of reading and writing. We will learn to compose sentences orally and record our ideas in writing for a range of purposes. we will learn how to write sentences that are sequenced to form a short narrative.

There are lots of free resources to support your child’s learning on the Oxford Owl website: https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/reading-schemes-oxford-levels/read-write-inc-phonics-guide/ and also free games on: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources

Mathematics

We will develop our understanding of place value up to 100 and use different methods and equipment to add and subtract numbers up to 20. We will begin to make arrays by making equal groups and building them up in columns or rows. We will double and halve numbers up to 20 and find a half and a quarter of a set of objects and shapes. We will learn to recognise coins and notes and combine coins to make totals.

In class we use a Rekenrek to help us in our NCETM Maths sessions. A Rekenrek is an arithmetic frame designed to help visualise addition and subtraction strategies. An interactive version is available by following this link: https://apps.mathlearningcenter.org/number-rack/

In class we use the White Rose Maths 1-minute maths app. You can download this free app to help your child to build greater number confidence and fluency. https://whiterosemaths.com/resources/1-minute-maths#download

Spelling

We will have a spelling check every Friday. Each week, the children will focus on a few spelling rules which can be found in their Home School Communication Book.

PE

PE is every Thursday morning. Please ensure that your child wears their PE kit to school (white t-shirt, blue or black shorts/joggers/leggings, school sweatshirt/cardigan and pumps/trainers).They will remain in their PE kits all day.

Reading

Reading Records  - Home / School Communication Book

Your child will be sent home with three reading books each night.  It is important that parents understand the reason for each of the books and how they can be used and enjoyed at home

Phonetically decodable book – you child will be given a Read Write Inc story book.  This is phonetically decodable, which means that your child will be able to read the book independently by breaking down the words into sounds and blending to read each of the words.  They will be able to do this on their own as the sounds in the book match the sounds they have learned in school.

Sharing Book – this book is age appropriate for your child but will contain some words and sounds unfamiliar to them.  This book is to share at home and can be read together.  Parents and children may take it in turns to read parts of the book but your child will need help as they will not be able to read the book completely independently. These books will help expose your child to words and vocabulary that will support their reading comprehension, spelling and in their writing.

Reading for Pleasure Book – your child will select a book of their choosing which will be read for fun and enjoyment.  This may be a book they have read before or something easier than they would usually read.  As well as learning to read fluently and with understanding, it is important that children have the freedom to choose books to read for pleasure.

Please read with your child at home every day and sign their Home School Communication Book.

 Family Morning

Please join us on the first Wednesday morning of every month at 8:30- 8:50am to find out what we are learning each week. We look forward to seeing you.
