AUTUMN TOPIC
Our Topics for the Autumn Term are All About Me
and Our Senses .
Welcome to the First Term in Nursery.
We will be welcoming some new children to Nursery this term and hope they settle well, make new friends and have lots of fun.
Our first topic this term is all About Me. We will begin our topic by talking about ourselves, learning each others' names and making friends. We will then talk about our homes and families. If you have photographs of your child with their family members we would love to see them. We will talk about how families can be different and the same. We will focus, then, on parts of the body and our Senses.
As the season changes we will learn about Autumn and then move into Christmas and enjoy lots of themed activities in our Areas of Provision.
In Literacy we will listen to different types of texts including fiction, poetry and information texts. We will read stories about familiar characters like Spot the Dog, Peppa Pig, Postman Pat etc. We will recite Nursery Rhymes each day so please have a go at home.
In Numeracy children will begin to recite numbers daily using our abacus but will also recognise numerals and count amounts. The children love BBC 'Numbertime', 'Numberblocks' and 'Colourblocks', which support our Maths work in school. Why not watch it with your child at home? You can find episodes on 'youtube'and BBC iPlayer.
Physically we will use the outdoor area to develop sense of space and early large gross motor skills such as climbing, bike riding, chase and hide and seek games. Indoors we will enjoy dance and movement activities and our Yoga sessions.
Our Religion theme will be ‘Family’. We will talk about our names and being members of our own and school families.
In the second half of the term we will focus on Advent and think about the story of baby Jesus being born.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
If you have anything you would like to ask or contribute that will help with your child's learning journey will be welcomed.
We enjoy watching YouTube clips to bring these topics alive, which you can also share at home. Have a look at :
