Extra Curricular Activities
Extra curricular activities run throughout the year. The main clubs are aimed at KS2 however we do provide some clubs for KS1 as well. Our clubs are aimed at further developing the children's knowledge and understanding and some of the clubs are fun based as well as learning.
We are members of the Rochdale Borough School Games Partnership. This provides many opportunities to compete against other schools in a wide range of tournaments and one off competitions. In the past we have taken part in
Tri Golf Cricket Cross Country
Athletic Rugby Dodgeball
Football Swimming Outdoor Adventurous Activities
Basketball Boccia and more besides.
These competitions and events also allow us to progress to the regional finals and the winter and summer games.
In 2019, we were nominated for the Rochdale Boroughwide Sports and Performing Arts Award for School Commitment to Sports and PE. We were shortlisted and eventually won! This is a huge achievement for our school and testament to the great dedication and commitment from Mr McKenna, our School Sports Leaders.
In November 2019, we were the winners of the Greater Manchester Sports and Performing Arts Award for School Commitment to Sports and PE. This is a huge achievement and testament to the hard work of our dedicated team. Children at Holy Family School benefit from extensive and exemplary sports provision which is recognised through this prestigious award.

Sports Ambassadors
Our role throughout school is to promote sports participation and to encourage active and healthy lifestyles. We do this by promoting the clubs we are part of in and outside of school and by talking to the children about how to be healthy and active in and outside of school. We also help to organise and lead sporting events. Each lunchtime we have a timetable of different sports on offer for our Ks2 children to take part in. We also support our KS1 children who are still developing their sporting skills at lunchtimes. We are all passionate, enthusiastic and keen to help promote sports participation at Holy Family RC Primary School. After the October half term some of our sports ambassadors will be leading some of our after school clubs under the supervision of Mr McKenna. This will give our ambassadors a more responsible role to help develop the skills of our younger children whilst developing their leadership skills.
Please check our Facebook page for all of our sports results.
Initiatives-
Walk to school- We have teamed up with 'Living Street' who are an organisation who promote walking to school and hope to encourage millions of people all to enjoy walking across the nation. At Holy Family we have decided that we also want to promote more of our children and parents to walk to school. Every Wednesday we encourage our children to walk or park on our church car park and walk across to school. If our children manage to walk to school for one morning a week instead of using a car, they are rewarded with a special badge. This continues throughout the year so that our children can collect a different themed badge each month. This is our second year of promoting this and we have already see big progress and hope we can add another day.
Healthy Tuck Shop- Our sports ambassadors have successfully run a Fruit Friday at lunchtime in the past and we now intend on taking this one step further. We hope to offer a wider range of healthy snacks and on a more frequent occasion but in the meantime, healthy snacks and fruit are available each week.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is available every day for children who wish to make use of the service. It is run in the school hall and costs £1.50 per day per child. This cost covers the price of breakfast and supervision. Children are supervised from 7.45am until the start of school.
We have recently bought some fabulous new equipment for our breakfast club, so please make the most of them.
Mr McKenna leads team games each morning during breakfast club.
If parents wish to make use of this service, please make arrangements with the school office before sending your children to the Breakfast Club.
Lunch Time
Our lunchtime organisers provide a wide range of sports for our KS2 children with help from our sports ambassadors. Our playground leaders from year 5 provide lunchtime games for our KS1 children also.

Physical Education
Here at Holy Family PE plays a big role in our children's school life. Each Class are provided with 2 hours of high quality PE each week. Our PE lessons cover all aspects of the National Curriculum. This ensures our children develop a range of skills in gymnastics, invasion games, striking and fielding games, athletics, dance and net/wall games.
PE is taught by Me McKenna, however we also try additional or specific coaching from specialist outside coaches from the Rochdale School Games Partnership and Link4Life. In fact, we are so devoted to providing good quality sports provision both within and outside of the curriculum that we have been awarded the 'School Commitment to PE & Sport Award' in the 2018/19 Rochdale Borough Sports and Culture Awards. A high accolade indeed! We are also the recipients of the Platinum School Sports Award for the first time following 4 successful years at Gold.
